excess| appendix surgery. If you have appendicitis, your appendix usually needs to be removed as soon as possible.

Laparoscopic appendectomy removes the appendix using small incisions and will be described below.
How is laparoscopic appendectomy performed?
You'll have general anesthesia for a laparoscopic appendectomy. The surgeon closes the incisions with very small stitches, staples, glue or surgical tape when the surgery is over.
Once you are asleep, the surgeon makes an incision near your belly button and inserts a small device called a port. The port creates an opening that the doctor can use to fill the abdomen with gas. This creates space for the operation. After that, a small camera is inserted through the port. The camera displays the surgery on a monitor in the operating room. Once the surgeon can see clearly, he places more ports to insert long, narrow instruments.
Finally they gently cut off your appendix and pulled it out through one of the incisions. Most operations need 3 surgical incisions, but this can vary from 1 to 4, depending on different circumstances.
Your surgeon may use a surgical robot to perform your procedure. This is done in the same way described above. Your doctor guides the robot rather than guiding the instruments by hand. This is commonly referred to as robotic surgery.
The surgical team may place a small plastic tube called a "drain" during surgery. This allows fluids to drain from the surgical area during recovery. So there is no buildup and no problems Your doctor will clear the drain later.
Advantages of laparoscopic appendectomy
Results may vary depending on your general health and the type of surgery, but the most common features of laparoscopic surgery are:
Less pain after surgery
Shorter time in hospital
Return to normal activity faster
Normal bowel movements sooner
smaller scar
What happens if the appendix is not removed laparoscopically?
Some people cannot have laparoscopic appendectomy. You may have open surgery with a single large incision if you are one of these people. Reasons for open surgery to remove or switch to an appendix are:
The appendix is very inflamed or there is an abscess (a large area of bacteria accumulating).
